You wouldn't ask a client who was new to bench pressing to attempt a one rep max. And you wouldn't ask a client who was unconditioned to start running 6 miles a day.
When it comes to programming for our clients, we know that we have to meet clients where they are. If a client has never lifted weights, or if a client has been sedentary for years, we know we need to start slowly, build up strength and confidence, and then ramp up programming when that client is ready.
