As trainers, we learn to have compassion for our clients. We understand their struggles, needs, and wants because these things are necessary for us to connect and help ensure their success. It’s important, then, to be reminded that we need the same sort of compassion for ourselves.
Self-compassion sounds like a buzzword, but so often we get down on ourselves for messing something up, for not making the sale, for disappointing a client, and so on. These things will happen, and it’s our response to these setbacks that will allow us to face our foibles head on and continue to grow as a person, a trainer, a coach, and a friend.
