5 quick tips to share with your clients today:

  1. Alcohol is poison for fat loss and muscle gain.
  2. The majority of your nutrition should come from real food. Supplements are a last resort.
  3. Endless crunches don't shred your abs––heavy weights and a good diet does.
  4. 2-3 tough sets drives more progress than 4-5 easy sets. Intensity is important. It's supposed to be hard.
  5. Always have a plan when you walk into the gym.

Selling coaching to people who have never had a coach is hard.

It's also hard to convince people to pay for a better service purely through content.

Fortunately, you don't have to do either.

To sell your coaching the obvious, yet unobvious, truth is to:

1. Go to where people already buy related services at similar price points, and
2. be genuinely helpful there, so that
3. you become the obvious choice.

You have one competitive advantage online: You’re unique and special and weird in some way.

We all are.

The sooner you lean into it––the sooner you let your geek flag fly––the sooner you’ll stand out.

We trust people who we share nerdy obsessions with, who we have uncommon things in common with.

Cassie can help people gain muscle and lose fat. She could give it fancy words and film pretty videos but at the end of the day, that’s what she does. The majority of consumers just need to eat a bit less and move a bit more. Fitness is simple, it’s just not easy.

The first step to knowing how to stand out is to accept that you’re probably overestimating the importance of your actual program deliverables. What most people actually need isn’t complicated.

Talking the same way as everybody else is safe. But when you do it, there’s no reason for anybody to pay attention to you online, let alone trust you enough to hire you over the 10,000+ other coaches on social media who say that they help people do exactly what you do.

How many CrossFit coaches do you think would have know that the lights I saw in the sky travelling North a few nights ago wasn’t a comet but was the launch from the jet propulsion lab in Pasadena? To Cassie, it was obvious. Because to Cassie, and to people who get Cassie, it’s common knowledge.


Imagine if Cassie formed the Space Nerd Athleticism and Sexification Association (SNASA).

Once formed, here’s a few things she would do to make herself the Obvious Choice.

  1. She would give fun space names to exercises. (Med ball slams would be called ‘Big Bangs’.)
  2. She would join online communities of cosmology enthusiasts and ask for input on naming workouts and exercises (as a great way to crowdsource ideas and also get interest in SNASA.)
  3. She would reach out to microinfluencers in astrophysics and cosmology and offer to train them for free because she’s a big fan and certified geek.
  4. She would share space-inspired workouts for space blogs and magazines.

See how much fun this could be?

Writing this all out, I kind of want to join SNASA and become one of her Snastranaughts. If she does do it, maybe I will.
