Here's what's new this week.
Obvious Choice Podcast Episodes:
Money
1.
Nature abhors a vacuum. If there’s an empty space, physically, metaphorically, or temporally, we fill it. Addition is natural, subtraction is not. This is why, over time, responsibilities add up, commitments compound, and the stuff we own tends to own us.
A hidden benefit of exploring with intention is that you cease to become intent in your complacency. Beginnings always hide themselves in ends.
In order to subtract, which we all need to do more often, we must stop. Not simply slow down, but pause.
Each end is a new beginning. A time to review and reassess one’s priorities.
2.
“Our lives are overburdened, and living often seems to us a terribly complicated affair. The problems of the world are so incredibly complex and we see that there are no simple answers. The complexity always leaves us with a feeling of helpless and powerlessness. And still, amazingly enough, we go on, day by day, always half subconsciously yearning for something simpler, something more meaningful.” - Joan Atwater
Health
1.
For most, working out is not enjoyable.
What's enjoyable is the feeling after the workout: The confidence it gives, the sense of satisfaction it derives, and the stability to our emotions that it brings.
A useful question to ask yourself at the beginning of every day is:
How do I want to feel when this day is finished?
The answer, the optimal feeling, tends to coincide with a workout getting done.
Relationships
1.
"When you really love someone it’s not “boring”, it’s serene. You feel comfortable and safe. It’s not always wildly passionate with high highs and low lows, some people call that exciting, I call it exhausting.
When I’m with my husband I feel safe, I don’t get butterflies but I get a gentle warmth in my chest. Like holding a cup of hot coco.
To me that’s what love is. He takes care of me and supports me.”
2.
A relationship requires a bare minimum of compatibility but too much sameness brings huge costs. Love requires complementarity––that is, differences.
We shouldn't be searching for a version of ourselves to spend our lives with. What we really need is somebody to complete us as a person.
While sameness might bring us close, newness is what keeps us together.
A Few Good Quotes from a Great Book
"Wisdom is a rarified form of intelligence born out of experience, the result of carefully testing your beliefs against reality. You make an attempt at solving a problem, and sometimes you stumble upon sucess; other times you make mistakes, and you correct them––over time, you learn, you adapt, you grow."
"On wild land, wild thoughts can flourish. There, we can feel all the ragged edges of what we do not know."
-Robert Moor (from On Trails)

Writing this to you in the library after eating tacos. Library's are amazing, so are tacos. When I'm surrounded by books with a belly full of tacos, life is good. Hope you're good, too,

Initial critical reviews have been amazing!
I've started sharing the book to get endorsements for the front and back covers.
The President of Shopify (probably the single guy with more insight in the world into what makes great advice for small business) had this to say:
"Consider this required reading for anyone running a small business - Goodman nails it when it comes to business insights. This book is filled with timeless advice, and unlike so many other business books, it's a joy to read. Every entrepreneur is going to get actionable takeaways from this read. If you're selling something, you need this book in your life. Trust me, you won't regret it!"
