299: Why Social Media Should be Your Last Priority as a Coach (do this instead) (Hot Seat)
Money
1.
"Building a business and becoming an online entertainer are different games people play. Neither's better or worse, but they have different time horizons, rules of engagement, odds of success, and reward mechanisms. Problems arise when you conflate the two––playing by the rules of one and desiring the rewards of the other."

Take what you do seriously, but don't take yourself too seriously.

A while back I heard somebody give the advice to figure out what you're good at without trying, then try.
I like that.
Health
1.
No junk food in the house.
Candy is wonderful. So are chocolate, chips, and ice cream. Don’t restrict yourself. If you want it, go out and get it. If you’ve got a hankering, walk to the gas station on the corner and buy yourself a Mars bar. Enjoy it, just don’t mindlessly consume it.
Most of the time, you’re not actually hungry. You’re tired, or bored.
Relationships
1.
Day 3 of a coastal ATV trip in Costa Rica, and Alison and I stumbled upon a stunning resort. After a meal, we said thank you and goodbye to the waiter. “Have a nice life.” He responded.
I love that. An admission that he was never going to see us again. That we shared time together. That it was nice. And that it is over.
I’m in Mexico now. It’s November; we’re here until April.
There’s a family we had dinner with last night. We like them and our kids get along. They leave tomorrow for the States. Maybe they’ll be back in March. If so, we’ll be happy to see them again. But we won’t keep in touch in-between.
People come and go. It’s perfectly ok to enjoy a moment in time with somebody who you cross paths with while simultaneously appreciating that most relationships end.
Don’t feel guilty for letting almost every relationship you’ll ever have lapse. Just about every friend you’ve had, or will make in the future, is passing through your life. Sure, exchange phone numbers or emails if that makes you feel good. You’ll never use either. Which is fine.
A Few Good Quotes from a Great Book
Breakfast was amazing, and I say that having been married tPeople’s advice is based on their fears, their experiences, their prejudices, and at the end of the day, their advice is just that: it’s theirs, not yours. When people give you advice, they’re basing it on what they would do, what they can perceive, on what they think you can do."
" The capacity to adjust and improvise is arguably the single most critical human ability."

What I like about Taylin's work is how thoughtful it is. Like me, he's been nomadic for many years and has experienced both the highs of success and lows of projects not working out.
