Lower back pain is so common that it's almost the norm rather than the exception. That's not to say that everyone is walking around in pain, but many people suffer from lower back pain at some point in their lives. As a trainer, it is extremely likely that you will encounter clients (plural) who have back pain histories. What, exactly, can you do for your clients? And what, exactly, should you do for them?
Dr. Stuart McGill -- already well-known for the impact of his work in this area -- gives an overview of how trainers can assess clients, help them avoid pain triggers and concentrate on pain-free movements, and help them progress logically and safely. Given that trainers see clients move more than any other practitioner, trainers "have the potential to play the largest role," according to Dr. McGill, in helping clients learn to move pain-free.
