Most things in life aren't black and white, but for some reason, our tendency as humans is to get rid of the "gray areas" in our world. We do it in fitness when we claim that "everyone should squat" or "no one should do upright rows." And we do it in fitness when we glorify leanness and shame fatness.

But exactly the opposite -- glorifying fatness and shaming leanness -- is just as short-sighted. And simply proclaiming that we should accept all bodies as they come isn't enough. After all, some of the judgement and emotional reactions we have about our bodies come not from our peers but from ourselves; we judge (and glorify and shame) ourselves just as much as we judge one another.

This week, Taylor Share takes a stab at defining a way in which "fat acceptance" can happen without shaming anyone, fat or lean, and without compromising the facts about what is and is not "healthy."
