The Gentle Art of Self-Control -- David Cain, Raptitude
Self-control is a hot topic in the fitness industry. The personal trainer's approach has taken a radical 180 turn in recent years -- and for good reason.
Think back to when you were a child. Recall your parent, teacher, or some authority figure telling you what to do.
Did you do it? Probably. Did you hate said authority figure a little? Probably. Did part of you count the seconds until he/she was gone so you could blatantly disobey?
That's the problem (or even paradox) with discipline, whether it's self-imposed or from an external source. Part of you likes to follow rules, and part of you wants anarchy. It's a delicate thing, and delicate things must be handled gently.
